Madrid, 1979. I began my composition studies at the San Lorenzo de El Escorial conservatoire, and later continued them at other Spanish (LIEM/CDMC, Aula de Música de Alcalá de Henares, Gabinete de Música Electroacústica de Cuenca…) and German (Darmstadt, Kürten -with Karlheinz Stockhausen-, Technical University of Berlin…) centres. I completed my degree in Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and my PhD in Art History and Musicology at the University of Oviedo – with a thesis on the philosophy of music entitled «La voz límite». I have taught at various Spanish universities, as well as in Berlin (TU) and in the United States (NYU and Harvard).
Between 2002 and 2005, I lived at the Residencia de Estudiantes thanks to a scholarship for creators and artists. In 2003, I was Alvin Lucier’s assistant and translator during his first trip to Spain. In 2005, I curated, together with María Bella, Itinerarios del sonido – the first public sound art project in Spain. I have presented my music in France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Macedonia, Serbia, Lithuania, Russia, Mexico, the United States, Japan… Since 2008, I have directed and presented the weekly programme Ars Sonora on Radio Clásica/RNE. In 2011 I received the IV Cura Castillejo Prize, awarded in the framework of the Festival «Nits de Deshielo i Art», by Llorenç Barber (the winners in previous editions of this award had been, respectively, Francisco López, Fátima Miranda and the pioneer artist in the field of sound and interactive installations Luis Lugán). In 2015 I directed, in collaboration with Luis Deltell, the documentary No escribiré arte con mayúscula, dedicated to Isidoro Valcárcel Medina.
Together with the ex-flamenco singer Niño de Elche, I am currently preparing an interpretation of José Val del Omar Auto Sacramental Invisible (1951) – a pioneering sound installation, but until now little known – which will be presented at the Reina Sofía Museum in June 2020. I am also working on an anthology of experimental music made in Spain, to be published by the Belgian label Sub Rosa, directed by Guy-Marc Hinant. I am also writing a monograph on radio listening to be published by Consonni, and I am finishing a book of conversations with Luis de Pablo for Casus Belli.
Since 2019, I have been collaborating with PROYECTOR in the writing of texts for the Festival.
